Animals are such fun to paint. They move around all the time, though. They only hold still when they are asleep, and that is not for long! The best way to draw them is to draw about five different poses on one sheet of paper. They will always come back to those poses and you can eventually finish your sketch. That helps get the proportions right, especially for sculpture, as the photos are always distorted. In painting a detailed animal painting I try to sketch from life first, then use reference photos to get the lighting correct.
